Day 7 : Friday 9th September 2005

Previous - Next

I rose early again and had my usual breakfast in the Club. Today was my last full day in San Francisco and I was determined to do something a little different from the usual tourist spots I had whizzed around on the previous three days.

After some thought, I decided to follow a recommendation from fellow Flyertalker Steady-EDI and head over to Sausalito, which is situated on the north shore of the bay, near the Golden Gate Bridge.

I headed down to the ferry building from Nob Hill on the California St cable car. I really don't think I could ever get bored of travelling in this way! With a ferry ticket purchased, I boarded the ferry for what I expected to be a fairly cool crossing, as the weather was again fairly dull with low cloud.

The journey itself only lasts 20 mins or so and provides great views of Alcatraz, the Bridge and back to downtown San Francisco. We arrived at Sausalito and I immediately set off exploring the small town on foot, which didn't take too long really. Sausalito is a lovely little place, a haven from the hustle and bustle of the big city. But there is not so much to do there in terms of tourist sites. I did make some visits to a few art galleries, but it was soon time for lunch, so I settled into a lovely Italian restaurant and had a long, lazy lunch.

The weather was steadily improving, so I headed off for a further walk along the beach front (not much of a beach as the tide was fully in), before hopping on the ferry and getting back to downtown. Once back, I'm afraid to say I didn't really do much else with the day, just chilled out in the hotel and even visited the fitness room there for a quick workout!

Drinks and canapés again (can you spot a pattern?) in the Club and yet again I didn't feel like anything proper to eat, so I just had another early night, mindful of the long travel I had ahead of me tomorrow.
