Day 13 : Thursday 7th October 2004

Kelowna

We had the most basic of breakfasts in our hotel (self-service cereals in polystyrene bowls!) and decided to spend the day discovering Kelowna. We initially went for a walk round the shore of the Okanagan Lake, down to the floating bridge. Thinking there was more to be seen over the other side, we walked across the bridge. This turned out to be a big error. Not only was the bridge path very near to the road and therefore noisy and smelly, but there was really nothing to see or do on the other side. The boat rental shop was closed and the only other facility was a small putting course, so we quickly headed back the way we had come.

We walked further round to a very nicely kept lakeside park and took some lunch at a nearby pub. The weather had again been good to us and we sat outside in the sun. I had an amazing buffalo chicken wrap. I love buffalo flavour chicken, does anyone know if you can get it in the UK?

After lunch, we stopped by the Tourist Info office to see what there was to do. As we all wanted to do different things, we decided to go our separate ways for a couple of hours and I ended up wandering around town and popping into one of the wine shops/museums, but as I had missed the tour, there was not much to see. There is a lovely Japanese Garden in the middle of Kelowna, a slightly strange sight, but beautifully kept.

Soon, it was time to meet up again and after a few beers, we decided to head to a local pub, Klly O'Bryan's for dinner. The portions served up in this pub were so stupidly large, that I'm amazed it makes any money! But it was great value for money, the food was absolutely delicious and extremely plentiful and the service was excellent, I heartily recommend this place!
