Intercontinental, Tokyo Bay, Japan

The IC Tokyo Bay is situated in the Takeshiba pier area, on the banks of Tokyo Bay. I used points for this stay, due to the cost of paying for a room and was upgraded to a Bay View Club room on the 20th floor, with stunning views out over Tokyo Bay to the Rainbow bridge. The hotel was opened in 1995 and to be honest it is starting to look a little bit tired. I'm not sure what the timeframe of refurbishing hotels is, but I think this place will need one in the next couple of years.

The room was small to average I would say, but that may be Tokyo for you. The view is stunning. I couldn't get a King bed room, so had to settle for twin beds, but they were perfectly adequate - indeed very comfortable. The welcome gifts were a bottle of wine, a fruit platter and a tin of breath-freshening mints. The bathroom featured separate shower and bath and a computerised whirring toilet-cum-bidet that are so popular here!

Club Intercontinental

The Club was not very good frankly. It is tiny and very busy. The offerings are poor - for example there is cheap sparkling wine rather than proper champagne. The food offerings are poor, both canapés and breakfast options. Although the staff do their best, what they're given to work with is not really good enough and incomparable with other Club offerings round the world. I didn't take any photos of the Club as it wasn't really possible.
