SQ109 Kuala Lumpur International (KUL) - Singapore Changi International (SIN)

Date: 24 March 2007
Departure (scheduled): 14:20
Arrival (scheduled): 15:15
Aircraft: Boeing 777-200
Cabin: First
Seat: 14A

The check-in area at KL airport is huge and the Singapore Airlines desks are right at one end. However despite the long walk, the terminal is absolutely beautiful and from my experience of quick check-in, security and immigration it somewhat deserves its much-advertised accolade as the world's best airport. I was checked in for both flights, given both boarding passes and had my luggage checked through to BKK, and despite the flights being on separate bookings this was no trouble for the check-in agent.

As with arrival, the flight was departing from the large satellite terminal building which is easily reached by a quick shuttle train ride. The Singapore lounge is also in the satellite building and while nice is nothing compared to its counterpart in SIN. It was reasonably busy, especially as departure time approached, but I sat at the window and enjoyed a ... Diet Coke! Well, no point getting ahead of myself. I watched as our plane taxied to the gate.

Departure was on time and this time the flight was not so full - in fact the gentleman sitting next to me in 14B moved back to an empty seat before departure . Again the flight was very short - not more than 40 minutes or so and I occupied myself by looking at the wonderful cloud formations out of the window. Food service consisted of a choice of roast beef sandwich or a salmon and pasta dish, which I went for. It was delicious. I noted that I was referred to by name at all times during the flight.

We were soon on our way into Changi, landing and taxiing to the terminal in no time. Transferring at Changi is extremely easy as security is done at the gates, so the outgoing and incoming passengers mix, which means you're dumped straight off the aircraft into the departure hall, from where I found my way straight to the F lounge.
